Bureau provides digital identity verification and fraud prevention solutions for businesses. One key feature that helps companies quickly and accurately verify the identity of their customers, is creating customised workflows according to their business requirements.
Workflows are made of smaller blocks called capabilities. These capabilities are responsible for running the checks on every dataset based on some conditions, and returning a decision, whether it’s accepted or rejected. Users can set up document check, selfie or liveness check, device intelligence checks and behavioural biometric checks to reduce the risk of fraud from new or existing customers.

The existing workflow design was very confusing for even the most experienced users to navigate and understand. The feature to add conditions was hidden, and the subsequent steps were difficult for a non-technical user to understand & work with.

I worked on this project alongside a designer and the product manager to redesign workflows. I majorly contributed in solving for the user journey and redesign of conditional logic while creating a new workflow. It was important for the final result to be simple & intuitive. User Research via interviews and existing product testing helped me understand the problem better.

The project started with user & industry research with an in-depth competitor analysis. To obtain accurate information concerning the needs and pain points of real users, I conducted user interviews with four participants. These participants were a mix of people with technical & non-technical background, as well as experienced users and beginners.
My objective was to comprehend how frequently 'adding a condition' is required during an average workflow building process, as well as when & where do they typically face challenges with this step. This exercise enabled me to uncover significant issues and requirements that would have otherwise remained undiscovered.

Apart from user interviews, I also conducted a thorough competitor analysis, which provided me with valuable insights regarding the competitive landscape and how other similar tools address this problem. This comprehensive research allowed me to better understand the strengths and weaknesses of the existing design, enabling me to design an inclusive solution for all users.

After completing my research and gaining a better understanding of the product, I began creating personas to clearly understand the variety of user base which used the tool. Mainly, there were 2 kinds of users dominating our user base, the Beginners, and the Advanced users.

Following this step, I formulated my main How Might We's. This gave me a proper starting direction for a solution that benefitted all kinds of users, and made sure that the design is inclusive.

After determining my key goals and the overall direction, I started experimenting with various user journeys and testing them internally with my team members. The biggest hurdle I faced was making the task of adding conditions and understanding 'if-else' statements accessible to any user, regardless of their level of technical expertise.
My aim was to simplify the process and make it intuitive even for beginners. To achieve this, I needed to create a clear and straightforward interface that would guide users through the process step-by-step. I wanted to avoid overwhelming them with technical jargon and complex options, so I decided to focus on a user-centered approach that put their needs first.

Users have different phones with certain constraints, and differences in their user journeys depending on some factors. For example, we wanted to have biometric logins, but ios devices may not have a fingerprint lock, and an android may not have either a fingerprint or a face lock.

After designing a couple of different iterations and testing them with internal team members, I was able to create a version which solved every major UX challenge that our users faced. At this stage, our team was ready to test this design with a real user.
After all the user testing & design reviews, I designed the final iteration for adding conditions in a workflow which is simple & self explanatory for both new & experienced users. This version visibly helped our users in setting up conditions easily and saving time.
