The cards serve as individual components that can be collected based on location and personal interests. When visiting a place, you can record your thoughts on one side of the card and upload digital memories to the memory bank through the QR code on the card. Upon exchanging the documented side, you receive a stamp, completing the card and marking the milestone of exploring the area.
This simple act transforms a personal moment into a shared story, bridging individual experience with collective memory.
The submitted side is added to a physical book, which also serves as an onboarding tool, encouraging people to engage with the Southwark stamps by reading others' experiences. Meanwhile, the other half of the card, with a magnetic strip attached to the back, is yours to keep, allowing you to use it for decoration or personalization.

The digital data from the memory bank remains active and continues to grow in the form of augmented reality (AR), which can be experienced by scanning the artifacts in the Cuming Collection. The exhibition provides context about the artifacts' historical significance, while the AR serves as a living memory, showcasing the experiences of people who have visited the places and engaged with the collection in person.
This creates a bridge between past and present relevance.
The AR also serves as an entry point, sparking curiosity in visitors and intriguing them about the concept of Southwark stamps. The video complements the entire system, adding an emotional touch and serving as a reflection of personal experiences from those who participated in the activity. It also enhances the authenticity of the experience.

We explored the significance of Southwark Stamps for international students. We conducted the first round of testing by distributing cards to various international students who were unaware of Southwark's history. Our goal was to understand their experience — did the cards enhance or detract from it? Did the added nudge encourage them to explore further?

We also tested the cards in the library setting to see if people would engage with them in a real-life context without us having to approach them. We allowed individuals to approach us voluntarily, as we had learned from behavioral mapping that people typically visit the library with a specific purpose in mind, and we didn’t want to intrude on their personal space.

The “breadcrumbs of motivation” approach was subtle but pulled viewers in effectively. Moments like the grandfather’s story were touching and stuck with people. Viewers engaged meaningfully, often imagining how they could contribute or extend the idea. Testimonials added authenticity and helped ground the concept in real-world impact.
The AR setup felt a bit flimsy, especially with the paper-based medium. Referring to the system as a “blueprint” created expectations it didn’t fully meet. In reality, we did not successfully design a system blueprint — it was more of a user journey map. The user journey wasn’t always clear and could’ve used more context or guidance. A visual walkthrough or simple storyboard would have made the concept more immediately graspable.
For future development, the system map could be expanded with clearer roles, places, and flows. Short-form media like vlogs could capture real-world usage in a lightweight way. Looking ahead, we can consider how the system can scale and invite contributions from strangers.
