We explored situations, objects, and feelings that give off warmth or heat, whether positive or negative. These were grouped into two types: tangible warmth, which we can see and touch, and emotional warmth, which we can only feel.
Tangible warmth includes things like the glow of a campfire, the burning of buildings, fresh bread from the oven, a cozy fireplace, or the colors of autumn leaves. Emotional warmth comes from a genuine smile, heartfelt gratitude, a warm welcome, caring gestures, or nostalgic memories.

We wanted to explore the concept of warmth in its physical form, so we planned to visit several places like parks, the tube, concerts, and cafes to collect data. After discussing with Tonischa, we decided to focus on gathering consistent and comparable data rather than vague observations about physical warmth in general. Hence, we thought of a common thread connecting all the places we wanted to visit.

The common factor was crowd, which led us to observe how people behave in crowded spaces and how body heat influences these interactions. We compared temperature differences in these locations and studied how humans react to varying levels of warmth in social settings.

The constant removal and addition of clothing layers is a common practice in London, & this is exactly what we found to be common throughout the places we explored.
This led us to conduct a behavioral mapping to study how layering and delayering clothing works and impacts travelers in the tube station. We also explored how body heat changes impacts these behaviours throughout the journey. Our findings come from both this research method and our personal experiences while traveling through the tube.

When it's hot, we take off layers of clothes, & we sweat to cool ourselves down. When it's cold we seek shelter, fire, or blankets to warm ourselves.
This creates a kind of temperature restlessness.
